This brand, which launched in 2018, features little, cartoonish robot characters who are extremely deformed and can morph into everyday objects.

During the BotBots’ other reality, a mystery cloud of energon gas floated across a shopping mall, changing everyday objects into miniature morphing robots. These objects included tools, electronics, furniture, food, toys, sports equipment, and just about anything else. By day, they remain hidden, and by night, they are up to no good.

While it began as a toyline, the franchise’s ongoing popularity helped propel it forward, and it has now gained novels, a mini-comic, a collection of convention exclusives, as well as a plethora of more items. The first episode of a Netflix original animation will air in March 2022.

It is important to note that BotBots takes place inside its own universe and mostly ignores any of the factions or themes that had previously been employed in the Transformers franchise. Instead, the line gave rise to a diverse range of “tribes” that were based on the shops or environments in which they were brought to life. References to existing Transformers worlds or incarnations of existing characters would be made on a very rare occasion, indicating that such universes or incarnations of existing characters existed as mass-market fiction inside the BotBots reality.
